Formal Dress: Black Tie

If you got an invitation with the dress code "black tie", "cravate noire" or "evening dress", it would signify that you are required to wear a tuxedo with the bow tie in black color.

A tuxedo jacket for evening dress is generally lighter than a normal suit as it is usually warm at evening events. For the jacket it's either single or double breasted but shawl lapel is also acceptable. Normally, the jacket has silk faced peaked lapels.

And the other formalities are as follows:

1) Pants - The color should be the same with the jacket unless it's a white jacket. When wearing white jacket, it's a must to wear black pants. There's a plain silk stripe on the outseam which is called a braid.

2) Dress Shirt - White in color with french cuffs. The front has vertical or horizontal pleats which should not extend to the waistband.

3) Cuff Links - A gold cuff links would suit well with black tuxedo. Or a silver cufflinks with black semiprecious stones.

4) Sash - Or formally known as cummerbund which is used to covers the area where the shirt tucks into the pants.

5) Handkerchief - Should be white, cotton and cleaned.

6) Socks - Black knee-length is required.

7) Shoes - Black patent shoes is a must but a black oxford is acceptable.
